Welcome to the Healthy Life

fit·ness  (ftns)
n.
Good health or physical condition, especially as the result of exercise and proper nutrition.

Good Health... something that is all too easily put onto the back burner during the busy hustle and bustle of life.  With our careers, education, family and social activity taking up what seems to be all of our extra free time it is so easy to push that date with the treadmill to the next day, which turns to the next week, to the next month and so on and so forth.  Driving through a McDonald's drive through is of course much easier, faster, and cheaper than making a home cooked meal; however, in the long run that cheap convenience will cost you more.

The growing rate of obsesity is alarming and saddening.  Obesity is defined as an adult with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 or higher (a person that is 5'8 and weighs 197 pounds has a BMI of 30).  According to the CDC, in 2009 Colorado had the lowest obesity rate of 18.6%.  The highest is Mississippi with 34.4%!!!  In 1990, there was not a single state with over a 15% obesity rate (there was no data for about 6 states).  This means that our current most fit state would only 20 years ago would have ranked as our most obese state.  If  our obesity rates have doubled in the last 20 years, where will be in another 20?  Scary to think about.  Check out the article here: Obesity Trends by State

I have found a love for fitness and nutrition.  I enjoy learning about it and implementing what I learn into my life.  It is my hope that through this blog I can help inspire and teach others to make healthier choices and improve their overall quality of life.  I will be posting about nutrition, exercising, vitamins and supplements, fat loss, building lean muscle, inspiration and motivation, and even beauty.  If you take care of your body now, your body will take care of you for the rest of your life!

Please remember that I am not a doctor and in no way should the information in this blog replace that of a medical doctor.
